Does the size of your Septic Tank matter?

Septic Tank Size

Not everyone is willing to admit it, but size does matter! Especially when it comes to your septic tank!

Size is very important for septic tanks.

Present-day myth is that smaller septic tanks are cheaper and easier to maintain than larger ones. However, this is not always the case. In fact, your septic tank’s size does matter as it affects how efficient the septic system is. Moreover, how it can separate and break down the waste. Owning or buying a house with the wrong size septic tank can be a costly mistake.

A good rule of thumb for determining the size of the tank is by the number of bedrooms in the home. Which is typically a good indicator of a homes water usage. If the tank is small in comparison to the homes water usage, it could force wastewater out prematurely. Thereby disrupting the settling of suspended solids as well as breaking down organic waste by bacteria. The more wastewater that flows through your system, the larger the size tank needed.  This way everything can process faster without getting backed up or overflowing.

Here’s a good rule of thumb, bedroom ratio to the size of your septic system
